Trio Learning Community

The TRiO Learning Community (TLC) Program, a federal student Support Services Program at New Jersey City University, is funded by the United States Department of Education and New Jersey City University. This program is designed to provide support services to low-income, first-generation students and/or students with disabilities.

Student Activity

Co-sponsored by the Student Government Organization (SGO), this one-day conference held on campus during winter break helps remind students of their role as leader and prepare them for the opportunities and challenges that may arise during Spring semester.

Quick Facts

The institution opened in 1929 as the New Jersey State Normal School at Jersey City. It was renamed as New Jersey State Teachers College at Jersey City in 1935 and Jersey City State College in 1958, becoming a liberal arts college in 1968. In 1998, the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education approved a change of institutional status and accepted its present name. The university is currently led by Dr. Sue Henderson, who became the first female president of the University in 2012.
